BUSHWHACK
Bushwhack (2007)
by Evil Dickie (written 5/08)
These four dudes from CT can play...
Fans of prog rock/metal should be all over this quartet from New England. I have to be honest, I only a few cds with no vocals like Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, etc. No my favorite type of rock/metal but I did enjoy BUSHWHACK's self titled cd from 2007. I listened to it many times and I can take away a great appreciation for musicians
For a style of rock that lends itself to showing itself off and "look at me, look at what I can play"; BUSHWHACK doesn't come across that way and that is cool with me. As I understand it BUSHWHACK are looking to add a singer to the band. A great move in my mind.
On their myspace page they quote there influences as Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Tool, Incubus, Opeth and many others. I can totally hear that.
As a wanna-bee musician myself that can not play his own guitar (never really could to begin with, lol) after hearing musicians like 4 guys under 25 years old. I feel stupid with my simple assed bar chords playing along to simple guitar hard rock in my pad.
BUSHWHACK has a few tunes on this cd that have hard radio air play written all over it if vocals were part of the deal. Call it short attention span on my part. I need the vocals to tie the whole song together.
If BUSHWHACK gets some good management and advice (being so young), they could be a player in the world of hard rock.
My favorite songs on Bushwhack are: "Sirens", "The Greatest Wall", "Sever The Sky", "Head Trauma", "Menace"
