Beautiful Tragedy

Century Media (2007)

Let's make this clear, I am not the resident "Metal" dude here at badtastemusic.com; that title belongs to Mr. Sully Payton.  But on occasion, I have been know to throw down (maybe too hard) with the best of them at shows like the annual New England Metal/Hardcore Festival.   My current metal favorites are bands like SHADOWS FALL, ALL THAT REMAINS & KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. (I guess you can tell I love New England metal)  Well back to IN THIS MOMENT, it's their cd review.

IN THIS MOMENT was formed in 2005 in Southern California by Chris Howorth (guitars) and Maria Brink (vocals).  Even though ITM are newbies as a band,  I think they have a chance to be around for some years to come.

With all the flavors and sub-genres of metal out like (death , black metal, hardcore, grindcore, extreme metal) the sub genre of metal bands who sing clean, scream/growl and have melody & harmony but still can be heavy is the most appealing for a music fan like me.  When I think of why, it's really quite simple.  The answer is Led Zeppelin.  Most music fans like or can appreciate the mighty Zeppelin.  They were the originators and the best of the light and heavy styles in rock.

Chris Howorth & Blaze Bunzel (guitars) provide plenty of big metal riffs that want to make you move and they can change the mood to the softer acoustic moments.  But I believe the real prize of IN THIS MOMENT is Mari Brink and her back and forth vocal styles of growl/scream to clean and clear, I think the ultimate contrast is there for us metal fans to enjoy.  Several rock & alt rock radio friendly tunes exist on this cd like "This Moment", "He Said Eternity" & "Beautiful Tragedy" and metal radio bound songs like "Next Life" & "Prayers".  Stop, let me rephrase, I could hear both types of rock radio stations playing a lot of these songs and they should.  At least that's my vote, if anyone cares.

August 20th at OZZFEST in Mansfield, MA; I will be front and center to check out IN THIS MOMENT live.  Will you be there too?
