LAURA THOMAS BAND
Step To The Wire 2005 By Evil Dickie
Step To The Wire is full of cool tunes. This New York area band is part jazz ("Blind Trinity", "Hey Boy", "Baby I Got It Bad"), part pop ("Come Janie Come", "I Will You"), part folk ("Like I Used To"), part rock ("One More Time", "Follow") & part blues ("Angry Banker"); which = talented band with a great singer.
Laura Thomas has an excellent textured voice with a jazzy style and range with the feel of blues based rock. Laura does not have a cookie cutter voice from the pop music out there now. The band (not vocals) might remind some a bit of the New Bohemians of Edie Brickell fame. The LTB are a very cool & groovy tight band but do rock out more and not sit back a light one, if you know what I am saying.
If you like artists like Carol King, Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin and are a fan of cool jazzy vocals meets blues, pop and rock; you need to own STEP TO THE WIRE.
The production of the cd is excellent and it not noticeable that this is not a major label release. The quality is there. Good job!
As a fan of bands & artists like 24-7 Spyz, Tori Amos, Stuck Mojo, Only Living Witness; Laura Thomas Band will find some time in my multi-disc changer in my home stereo. I have already recommended it personally to family.
My favorite songs on Step To The Wired are: "Angry Banker", "Baby I Got It Bad", "I Will You" and "Hey Boy".
