The End Is Begun
Metal Blade Records
(2007)
THREE is a very unique and different progressive rock band, truly
unlike anything I've ever heard before. They’re experimental progressive
rock with a twist, not alternative, not metal but something in between.
The impressive guitar work, gentle vocals, and harmonizing in "The End Is
Begun" makes for a great album from open to close.
The five guys from New York open the album with the perfect track, "The
World is Born on Flame" lets the listener know what they're in for, an
experimental explosion of every genre of rock you could think of. The
vocals in most of the songs resemble that of Coheed and Cambria, but with
more feeling and testosterone. The occasional finger tapping guitar adds
an extra 'wow' to this album and band as a whole. Tracks like 'Been to the
Future', 'Bleeding me home', and 'Live Entertainment' display the slower
and more alternative side of Three. While track 5, 'My Divided Falling'
sums the band up in four short minutes of unique musical expression.
Slightly heavier, with the lyrics "They're gonna get you" lightly sang in
a creepy yet pretty way, which in my opinion is the whole mood of this
album.
Beginning with "The world is born of flame", and closing with "The last
day", the album follows a flow which strangely hits its peak towards the
beginning and middle of the album, and tapers down towards the second half
and end, finishing the story. Whether you find this album in the metal,
alternative, or progressive rock section of your local cd store, Three is
definitely a band to keep your eye on. Their talent and knowledge of music
theory and music in general makes "The End Is Begun" an amazing album
filled with up-and-downs of emotion and sound.
